What is an API 5L pipe?

API 5L specifies the manufacture of two product levels (PSL1 and PSL2) of seamless and welded steel pipe for use in the transportation of petroleum and natural gas via pipeline. Refer to Annex H of API 5L 45th Edition for material usage in a sour service application, and Annex J for material used in an offshore service application.
